Winter 2014 Edition of IN TOUCH with Karen Rose Smith

 WHAT'S NEW??????

Welcome to my winter edition of In Touch!  The holidays passed so quickly and Valentine's Day is a another holiday I enjoy to the fullest.  I thought ALWAYS DEVOTED would be a good novel to feature this month.  Do you still like to hold a print book in your hands?  I'm working on developing all of the SEARCH FOR LOVE books (7 books) in my series into print.  Just check on Amazon for ebooks, print and audiobooks.

Speaking of audiobooks, I hope to have HEARTFIRE in production this spring and available by summer.

I've received emails asking me about the sequel to HER SISTER, Beth's story which will be book 8 in the SEARCH FOR LOVE series. I do have it plotted! I'd like to start writing it soon.  Stay tuned and I'll let you know when I do.

The launch for STAGED TO DEATH, my first Caprice De Luca home staging mystery, went extremely well.  The book even made #43 on the Barnes & Noble Bestseller list!  My Facebook friends and readers had a terrific three hour launch party at the beginning of December with  giveaways, recipes, trivia and lots of photos. I'll be planning another event for my second mystery DEADLY DECOR which will be released in June.  If you're on Facebook, "friend" me and I'll be glad to invite you to the party.

If you've read STAGED TO DEATH, you realize Caprice's sister Bella has a few problems!  They come to a crisis in DEADLY DECOR.  Caprice's large Italian family is a huge part of this mystery series as are the stray animals she takes in and finds homes for.  This series is a challenging lark for me.   Reviews are welcome on both Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Goodreads.

My focus right now is on editing the third mystery which will be released February 2015.  It has a Valentine's Day theme!

My next romance in THE MOMMY CLUB series for Harlequin Special Edition will be available in September.

I'll be attending a special Valentine's even this year at Ashcombe Nursery in Mechanicsburg, PA.  I will be joining other authors and signing books from 12-2 p.m.  If you live nearby, come join us.

AROUND THE HOUSE...

Our landscape has been snow-covered on and off since early December.  It can be beautiful!

Both of these photos were taken of the fields, trees and barn to the
 rear of our property.

As many of you know, we have three inside cats.  Ebbie, Zoie and London keep us company daily and always have a purr or a nudge.  Ebbie particularly likes a new electric blanket.  London likes sleeping in the sun.  Zoie is just nearby wherever we are!

We also still feed feral and stray cats.  We have a motley crew of about four or five who come and go.  Arthur, Galahad and Percival are regulars. We haven't named this pretty calico.  And Romeo arrives when the spirit moves him.

Winter sometimes seems really dreary, so I start planting for spring.  This year, I planted geranium seeds in violet and pink and white.  Hopefully by next issue, they will be plants!!!

IN TOUCH Holiday Edition 2013

WHAT'S NEW???

The release of my first mystery STAGED TO DEATH is new!  This first novel in my Caprice De Luca mystery series is set in south central Pennsylvania in the fictional town of Kismet between York and Harrisburg.  Caprice is a home-stager who takes in stray animals, cares about her large Italian family and cooks for anyone she loves.  This series is a challenging lark for me to write and I'm loving it.

To celebrate the release of STAGED TO DEATH, I'm having a Facebook Launch Party on December 3, 2013 from 6 - 9 p.m.  If you'd like to attend, stop in at my author page on Facebook and "LIKE" it.  Then you can join in the fun.

I'll also be having a book signing on December 7, 2013 at Books-A-Million in the North Hanover Mall from 1 - 3 p.m.

Recently I've formed a street team of readers who want to help me promote my mystery series.  If you're interested in joining, read about it and fill out the form on my mystery website at http://www.karenrosesmithmysteries.com/team-caprice.html

In addition to Team Caprice, I've formed a Readers Group on Facebook with giveaways and chat.  To join, message me on Facebook or email me at Karen@karenrosesmith.com.

Right now, I'm actually working on book three in the mystery series and it will have a Valentine's Day theme.

I receive email every week asking if there will be a sequel to HER SISTER.  I'm happy to say that I'm plotting it now.  I hope to begin writing it in early winter.

Books in my SEARCH FOR LOVE series are now available in print.  ALWAYS DEVOTED, ALWAYS HER COWBOY, CASSIDY'S COWBOY, as well as HER SISTER are available in print, e-book and audio book.  I hope to have NATHAN'S VOW in print early in the new year.

Recently I also had the pleasure of touring a wolf sanctuary. Though these amazing creatures are not around MY house, I will be visiting them again this month for a private tour. I suspect besides learning about them and their care, I could be using info I gather in an upcoming mystery.

AROUND THE HOUSE...

This is the time of year when I cook rather than garden.  I've created an original recipe for the celebration of STAGED TO DEATH's release.  Here it is:

Caprice's Choco Chunks and Chips Cookies!

1/2 cup salted butter softened
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
3 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
6 oz milk chocolate (I use two 3 oz Dove bars broken into small pieces or chunks.  These bars break or cut up easily.)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a mixer, cream softened butter and peanut butter.  Mix in brown sugar and granulated sugar until creamed together.  Add eggs and mix well.  Add cinnamon and vanilla.  Add baking powder and baking soda.  Blend well.  Add 2 cups of flour, a quarter cup at a time with mixer on low speed, constantly scraping bowl.  Stir in the other cup of flour, a quarter cup at a time, by hand until completely blended.  Stir in chocolate chips and chunks.

Roll into 1 1/2 inch balls, place on cookie sheet 2 inches apart and press down slightly with palm of hand.  (I usually put 12 cookies on one cookie sheet.)

Bake 11 - 12 minutes until golden brown and set.  (The type of cookie sheet you use can affect the baking time.  Darker cookie sheets bake faster.)

Remove from the oven and let the cookies sit a minute on a cool surface.  Remove from pan.

Recipe makes about 30 - 36 cookies.  Let cool until the chocolate hardens.  Unless you eat all of them gooey warm!

****

Our inside cats have settled into a routine and sisterly friendships over a year after Zoie Joy joined the family.

Ebbie enjoying a leisurely sunbath!
London snoozing under (or should I say OVER) the watchful eye of Zoie!
Still mischievous Zoie
Also around our house, we have a few feral cats.  Four at last count are visiting our feeder.  Since we took away the patio planters, we've utilized hay bales as a barrier against the wind as the temperatures drop.  We also have feral shelters the cats can use when they need them.  Two near the house have heat pads.  This one in a side garden is for the cats who don't want to get too close but who need our protection.

SPECIAL THIS MONTH!!!

The prize this month is a Micro Boom Speaker.  I just love mine!  If you have a smart phone, an Ipad or an Android device that is blue-tooth ready, you can use this little speaker that sounds like a boom box!!!  It's about 2 1/4 inches high and round.  Wireless, it's easy to take anywhere to have a terrific sound listening to an audiobook or music.  With this prize you will also win an e-book copy of ALWAYS HER COWBOY.

Use the button on the right to enter the contest.  Please only one entry per email address.  They are sorted.  The contest ends December 31 at midnight EST.  Winner will be notified by January 15 and will have to email me his or her snail mail address.  If winner does not respond by midnight January 31 2014, a new winner will be drawn.  THE CONTEST IS OPEN TO US/CANADA WINNERS ONLY.

Good luck!  Have a wonderful holiday season...and a happy new year.

Fall Edition 2013

WHAT'S NEW???

This fall you can listen to romance as well as read it.  My indie-published romance, APRIL'S PROMISE, is now an e-book, print and audiobook.  You can find all three at Amazon.
                                                APRIL'S PROMISE at Amazon

Also this fall, my Montana Mavericks Harlequin Special Edition, MARRYING DR. MAVERICK, is available.  On October 1, it will be available in e-book as well as print.  My hero is a veterinarian who cares about animals as much as I do.  If you follow the Montana Mavericks series, you will already have met Jazzy Cates, my heroine.  This romance about a marriage of convenience could be considered part of the "New Adult" genre.

ALWAYS HER COWBOY and ALWAYS DEVOTED from my Search For Love series are now available in print.  In the coming months, I hope to release more of the Search For Love books this way.

My Team Caprice and I are gearing up for my first mystery release in December.  You can find out more about STAGED TO DEATH, a Caprice De Luca home-stager mystery at my mystery website. Link to Karen's mystery website   There is also a form on the mystery website if you are interested in becoming a member of Team Caprice.  Book 2 in the Caprice De Luca mystery series, DEADLY DECOR, will be released in June 2014.  I have received approval on the plot for the third book in the series and that will have a Valentine's Day theme.

I have finished book 2 of The Mommy Club.  Its working title is DAD IN TRAINING.  You met pediatrician Kaitlyn Foster in Book 1.  I think you'll easily fall in love with my hero Adam Preston who's debonair, sexy and an environmental geologist.

AROUND THE HOUSE...

Along with tending our gardens this summer, we adopted a stray cat and he adopted us.  Lancelot had many physical problems and he passed on recently.  He gave us numerous gifts that we'll remember including enjoyable hours with him in the garden and in the sun.

Summer Edition 2013

WHAT'S NEW???

A cold case.  A new lead.  After 27 years will Clare find her sister?  For my readers who like to hold a book in their hands, HER SISTER is now in print.  It is also available as an audiobook and an e-book.  I'm thinking about a sequel!  All three versions of HER SISTER are available at Amazon.

I have a new release--APRIL'S PROMISE--which is the first book in my Forever Love series.  Gabe is an honorable man, April is an honorable woman, but the secret April is keeping can tear them apart.  I'm in the midst of developing APRIL'S PROMISE into print and audiobook formats.  The print book should be available at Amazon by the end of August.  When you read this novel, it will be easy to tell who the hero of the next book will be.

At the end of July, the first book in my Mommy Club series will be released by Harlequin Special Edition.  The setting for WANTED: A REAL FAMILY is a California vineyard.  Former photojournalist, Jase Cramer, gives Sara Stevens and her daughter a place to stay when their house burns down.  A physical therapist, Sara once helped Jase heal from injuries that were more than physical.  Now a widow, she is free to fall in love again.  Can both of them put the past behind them to find everlasting love?

What do you think of Special Edition's new cover design. I think this one is a beauty.

I just finished Book 2 in my Caprice De Luca Mystery series.  I love the cover for Book 1, STAGED TO DEATH, which will be released in December.  Don't forget to check out Karen's Mystery Website to learn about the murder to be solved, as well as more about Caprice.  The mystery can be pre-ordered now on Amazon.

AROUND THE HOUSE...

Zoie Joy celebrated her first birthday in May.  She has grown from 1 1/2 pounds to about 10 pounds since we found her last June.  Each day she makes us smile and downright belly laugh. You can read about her rescue at my blog series Rescuing A Kitty, Part 1.

She and her sisters watched with interest as we did a cosmetic makeover of our kitchen.  We brightened it up with yellow and white color blocking.  The sun catchers at the window throw rainbows on the wall.

Everyday something new blossoms in the garden--from phlox to hibiscus to roses.  The patio is an inviting place to write.  The vegetable garden is in its early stages.  I raised heirloom tomatoes from seed again this year.  The zucchini and green beans have taken off, so soon we will hopefully have some organic vegetables to eat.

WHAT'S NEW???

So much is new!  My Audiobook selection for my readers at ITunes, Audible and Amazon is growing. WHEN MOM MEETS DAD, a summer romantic parent-trap comedy, went live recently.  It joined NATHAN'S VOW, ALWAYS DEVOTED, ALWAYS HER COWBOY, WISH ON THE MOON, and TOYS AND BABY WISHES.  These audiobooks can be downloaded onto smart phones, Ipads, laptops and desktops for your listening enjoyment.

Also new this month are the buttons on my Facebook page. Now you can find a complete selection of my ebooks, print books, audiobooks, a reader letter as well as a signup for my newsletter, right on my Facebook author page!  I'm attempting to make interaction with my readers as easy as possible. Go here to take a peek. FACEBOOK AUTHOR PAGE

I've been multi-tasking over the past few weeks with several projects.  I just finished the copyedit of STAGED TO DEATH, my Caprice De Luca home-stager mystery which will be released in December.  To my surprise, you can preorder now on Amazon. I've included three recipes since Caprice likes to cook.  STAGED TO DEATH on Amazon

In the past week, I've completed the rough draft of Book 2 of Caprice's mystery series tentatively titled COLOR SCHEMER. I've been busy developing more recipes for this book, too. My husband and I and my neighbor taste test each time I make one as I adjust the ingredients. This is one of the benefits of having a sleuth and a family in the mysteries who like to cook. In the next month to six weeks I'll be editing book 2 to send in.

My next indie release will be a romance to fit into my FINDING MR. RIGHT series.  I'm trying to finish that book while I edit the mystery.  Diversification gives me a fresh take on both.  I'm hoping to have this romance released by summer.

AROUND THE HOUSE...

Zoie is growing up!  She's definitely a teenager now at least.  She's still cuddly and a sweetie.  Sometimes when she's walking past me I can't tell if it's her or Ebbie.  But Zoie's tail is longer and her eyes are golden instead of green.  So there's no mistaking one for the other after a good look.  And, of course, Zoie has white splotches on her chest and a crooked white tie under her chin.

It's tomato and flower planting season here.  Impatiens and geraniums really took off and I'll have plenty to plant in our gardens.  The tomatoes are a little later than I planned but they're growing, too.  They are all heirlooms--Ponderosa Red, Pink and Golden, Anna Russion, Big Italian Beefsteak, Watermelon Beefsteak, Bull's Heart, and a new one called Rose.

Our flower gardens need some work.  The ever blooming lilacs are beautiful and full of wonderful scent. We planted two new roses--Barbra Streisand and California Dreaming. Both have full hybrid tea buds and blooms as well as scents that carry.

The prize this month is a $10 BURGER KING gift card and an ebook copy of ALWAYS HER COWBOY.  Use the button on the right to enter the contest.  Please only one entry per email address.  They are sorted.  The contest ends June 30 at midnight EST.  Winner will be notified by July 15 and will have to email me his or her snail mail address.  If winner does not respond by midnight July 31, a new winner will be drawn.  THE CONTEST IS OPEN TO US/CANADA WINNERS ONLY.
